The Role

Become a Local Governing Committee Governor for Connex!

Brunel Education is currently recruiting Governors to support Connex, an Alternative Provision offering personalised and bespoke curriculums to our children and young people (CYP) who have a range of special educational needs. We support our Bespoke SEND Learners, ranging in age from EYFS to Key Stage 4, in small groups or as individuals, along with supporting them in their mainstream schools and settings through our Outreach Services.

If you are a professional who has an interest in education and wants to support the Leadership Team with your passion, experience and knowledge – we would love to hear from you! We would especially like to hear form you if you have experience or an interest in Safeguarding CYP.

Governors don’t need specific qualifications, just an ability to listen, think through new ideas and decide what’s best for Connex as part of a team. You will need to set high expectations and be able to ask challenging questions, but you are not expected to make day to day decisions about how Connex is run… That’s the job of the Principal and their Senior Leadership Team.

The Local Governing Committee (LGC) is a unique and collaborative group of provision employees, parents and professionals who are dedicated to ensuring our CYP receive the very best in their educational lifecycle. It is a real opportunity to make a positive difference and become a key part of the community our provision serves.

We would welcome you to visit us. Please call Mark Wiseman (Principal) on 07918 497 095 to arrange a visit to tour the site or/and have an informal conversation.

More about your contribution and commitments

This role is voluntary, and meetings are a minimum of 3 LGC Business Meetings and 3 additional LGC meetings focusing on the quality of education, and a number of committee meetings each year which you will be consulted on in advance. There may be times where you are requested at short notice to join urgent meetings - but in these rare cases this is avoided as much as possible.

Establishing and maintaining professional relationships with senior leaders and colleagues on the LGC will be key, so your ability to build relationships with colleagues is pivotal, and getting to know the provision, including visiting occasionally during operational hours will be ideal for you to integrate yourself as an active member of the LGC.

To see more on this fantastic opportunity, please see below the downloadable role description. To discuss the role in further detail, please contact Michelle Carter (Head of Governance) at carterm@brunel.org.uk or apply now via this page!

In the first instance we would welcome your application via SAM People Recruit. However, if you are unable to complete the application on this platform, please contact the team using resourcingswindon@brunel.org.uk or 01793 268820 and we will be able to issue a Word version of the application form for completion and return by the deadline. Unfortunately, in line with Safer Recruitment, we are unable to accept CVs.
